In their ongoing photographic project, Charlotte Woolford and Mal Woolford respond to their personal connection through historic transatlantic chattel slavery.
Knowing each other from the school run, they discovered by chance that they share the same surname. Research revealed that a branch of Mal’s family most probably enslaved Charlotte’s ancestors, pointing to a household just a few generations ago in Georgetown, British Guiana.
Charlotte and Mal use the early photographic technique wet-plate collodion to make closely observed portraits not as photographer and model but as co-photographers. The show contains images made together in London and on the street and property where the enslaver and enslaved Woolfords lived.

This will be the topic for our Sharing our Stories evening on the usual Winchester Meeting House Zoom. (Contact Winchester Wardens for the link)
“...think it possible you may be mistaken.” is part of A&Q 17 and it invites us to take a step back when we are faced with disagreements, to pause and consider the other person’s point of view. How easy is this in practice? How do we lovingly agree to disagree? How do we heal the divide after a disagreement? Are we projecting our inner conflicts and making our world a more difficult place rather than working towards peace?
Lets explore these issues together and see if we can help each other by sharing our experiences of being faced with these sorts of questions in a worship-sharing format.
